Frightened pets, elderly pets, arthritic pets, and the ones who had a bad day at a salon and remember it. There is no rush here, because there is nobody else booked in behind you.
What is different about the appointment
One pet at a time
No other animal in the room, no barking down the hall, nobody waiting. Most of what looks like a difficult pet is a pet reacting to a busy salon.
Nothing is sedated
Not here, and not quietly. If an animal genuinely cannot be groomed safely awake, that is a conversation with your vet, and Taylor will tell you so plainly.
No cage drying
Cage dryers are hard on old hearts and hard on frightened animals. Everything here is hand-dried, which takes longer and is the point.
We can stop
Half a groom done calmly beats a finished one your pet spends the next year dreading. Nails and face today, the rest next time, is a perfectly good outcome.
Older pets
A senior groom is not a normal groom done gently. It is a different appointment, planned around what the animal can physically stand.
- Standing for a long time is hard on arthritic hips, so a senior groom is broken into short spells with rests in between.
- Older cats stop grooming themselves long before their owners notice. That is usually when the mats start, and matting pulls at thin skin.
- Skin gets thinner and lumps appear. If Taylor finds something under the coat you should know about, she tells you and shows you where it is. She is not a vet and will not guess at what it is.
- Nails grow faster and get walked down less, so they are often the most urgent part of the visit.
Tell her before, not after
None of this is held against your pet. It is how Taylor plans the appointment, how long to allow, what order to do things in, and what to leave for next time.
- What happened last time, if there was a bad last time. Where it went wrong matters more than that it did.
- Anything a vet has said, a heart condition, a bad hip, a recent surgery, medication.
- What your pet is worst about: the dryer, the nails, the table, being picked up, strangers.
- How long they usually last before they have had enough.
